On this episode of Get Fed, we have a very special guest bringing us around...he’s none other than Nigel! Besides being the most popular intern, he is also a student at NTU and is bringing us to his favourite spots in NTU! Some of his recommendations coincided with the recommendation of our viewers, so we were very hopeful!

There’s also ANOTHER promo code for yall! Read on till the end!

NIE Canteen Noodle Stall

This stall has been known to serve up delicious yet affordable noodles for many years. A small bowl of Mushroom Minced Meat Noodles (aka Bak Chor Mee) goes for $3 whereas a large bowl would go for $3.80. At first glance, the noodles really do look unassuming. However as you dig into the bowl, the vinegar smell starts wafting through the air. The noodles were cooked al dente and there was no lack of ingredients to fill you up.

While chowing down on our noodles, we noticed that the line was never ending and the kitchen staff were all busy churning out each customer’s order. Definitely a testament to its popularity! We also urge everyone to beware and avoid stepping on Uncle's toes. He is known to be a grumpy man and will fuss at customers for taking too long. However, if you've been watching our videos long enough, it is our theory for hawkers/coffee shops, that the ruder they are, the better tasting the food is, and that theory applies for this stall.

Canteen 11 Mixed Veg Rice

Who doesn’t love a good comforting plate of Cai Fan especially when it’s located so close to your dorm? This Cai Fan stall is conveniently located in between Hall 10 and 11 and serves up a number of dishes that reminds you of your mum’s cooking while you’re stuck in Hall.

We ordered Kong Bao Chicken, Sweet and Sour Fried Fish, Steamed Egg and Long Bean. This 2 meats and 2 veggies meal cost us $5.40. Definitely worth every dollar! The curry used was the “funeral” curry that Ryan raves about, and he also enjoyed the fish which was very crispy. Meanwhile Ben’s star dish was the egg and Nigel, the Kong Bao Chicken. Looks like there was something for everyone in this simple yet comforting plate of cai fan!

Si Chuan Mei Shi

This stall serves up an array of Si Chuan delights, however, we got 3 dishes that were highly recommended by Nigel. They were the Boiled Chicken ($6), Double Cooked Pork ($7) and the Sour Vegetable Sliced Fish ($8.50). The dishes were so flavourful that it made us keep wanting to go back for more!

The boiled chicken or directly translated as “saliva” chicken really left us mouth watering. It tasted really similar to Ding Tai Fung’s rendition of the same dish. The chicken was tender and full of flavour. Although it looks drenched in red, spicy oil, its not at all! The double cooked pork was juicy on the inside and crispy on the outside. Similar to the chicken, despite its spicy appearance, even Ben (who is a xiao la eater) could tolerate the spiciness! Unfortunately, while the sour vegetable sliced fish was decent, it was nothing to shout about. That being said, we really LOVED the Double Cooked Pork! So much so that we were literally fighting over it after the shoot was over. PLEASE, I urge you guys to try this stall if you’re ever in NTU!

A Hot Hideout

This was our last location for the day and it, without a doubt, blew our minds. A Hot Hideout serves Mala in a different fashion than most. They are known for their addition of scrambled egg atop the Mala as well as the deep frying of each ingredient, making it really unique.  This gives the Mala more textures, making the mouthfeel really enjoyable and addictive!

The 3 bases we had were Mala Stir Fry($1.50), Collagen Soup($1.50) and Mala Collagen Soup($2.50). The Mala Stir Fry was not as numbing or as spicy as compared to other store’s, making it much more palatable. The collagen soup didn't taste like your usual collagen soup, but more like a thick fish soup(with milk). Lastly, the Mala Collagen soup was a special combination that surprisingly works! The collagen made the soup base more drinkable as it was creamier and we were impressed at how well the Mala kick paired well with the collagen. Definitely check out A Hot Hideout for a twist to your usual Mala!
